Diwali at Dev Gir Farm: A Simple, Golden Celebration

Every year when Diwali comes around, the whole place feels different. The air smells of freshness, the trees look brighter, and even the cows seem calmer. Maybe they sense it too – the excitement that comes with the festival of lights.

At Dev Gir Farm, Diwali isn’t about fancy decorations or endless fireworks. It’s about slowing down. It’s about those small, honest moments — lighting diyas with ghee made right here, cooking sweets that remind us of childhood, and spending time with people we love.

The Days Before Diwali

A few days before Diwali, things get busy here. The house needs cleaning, the courtyard gets swept, and someone always ends up covered in rangoli colors. Early mornings are my favorite, though. The air is cool, the farm is quiet, and the sound of the cows mooing softly fills the space.

Our Gir cows are gentle and beautiful — they walk slowly to the field, their tails swishing, waiting for their morning fodder. When the milk pail fills, I always think, “This is where it all begins.” That fresh milk will later become our Bilona A2 Gir Cow Ghee, the same ghee that ends up in our lamps and sweets during Diwali.

It’s a peaceful rhythm — simple, real, and grounding.

Ghee Lamps and Evening Glow

Every evening, just before sunset, we light the first diya. My mother always says, “A ghee diya is more than light, it’s a blessing.” She’s right. There’s something about a flame fed by pure ghee — it burns steady, gives a soft golden glow, and leaves behind a faint, comforting fragrance.

Last year, my niece helped me pour ghee into tiny diyas. She spilled half of it on her hands and laughed, saying it felt warm and smooth. Moments like that — messy, genuine, unplanned — that’s what festivals are really made of.

We place the diyas all around the farm gate and near the cowshed too. The cows stand quietly, their eyes reflecting the light. For me, that’s the real beauty of Diwali — peace, light, and gratitude.

The Sweets that Bring Everyone Together

The day before Diwali, the kitchen turns into pure chaos. Someone’s roasting gram flour, another person is shaping laddoos, and someone else is sneaking a few before they cool down. The air fills with the smell of ghee and cardamom — a smell that can make anyone feel at home.

We use only our Gir cow ghee for sweets. It’s richer, smoother, and adds that soft texture you can’t fake. My grandmother used to say, “If the ghee isn’t pure, the sweet has no soul.” I didn’t really understand it when I was younger, but I do now.

Making sweets together, laughing over little mistakes, and tasting the first batch — it’s not about perfection. It’s about togetherness. And when those sweets are made with ghee we’ve created from our own cows’ milk, it feels special — personal.

Gifting from the Heart

Over the years, I’ve stopped buying random Diwali gifts. Instead, I like to give a small jar of our Dev Gir Farm Bilona Ghee. I tie a ribbon around it, add a little handwritten note, and sometimes include a few homemade sweets.

Friends often tell me it’s their favorite gift. Some use it for cooking, others for lighting diyas, and a few even say they just love the fragrance. One friend told me last year, “Your ghee smells like my childhood.” I think that’s the best compliment we’ve ever received.

Gifting ghee isn’t just about giving a product — it’s about sharing a feeling. A bit of warmth. A bit of care.

A Simpler Diwali

I’ve realized that Diwali doesn’t need to be grand to be beautiful. It’s okay if you don’t have the perfect decorations or the fanciest sweets. What matters is the heart behind it — the intention, the love, and the memories you create.

This year, we’re keeping it simple again. Fewer lights, more diyas. Less shopping, more sharing. Real food, real conversations, real joy.

And yes, there will be plenty of ghee — for lamps, for laddoos, and for every memory we make.

From Our Farm to Your Home

Every jar of Dev Gir Farm Gir Cow Ghee carries the calm of our fields, the care of our people, and the love of our cows. It’s slow-made, just like life should be.

When you use it in your kitchen or light a diya with it, you’re connecting with something old and pure — a small tradition that still holds meaning today.

I hope when you celebrate Diwali this year, you take a moment to slow down too. Notice the light, the laughter, the smell of ghee in the air. That’s what this festival is about.

The entire team at Dev Gir Farm wishes you a Diwali brimming with love, light, and the comforting golden essence of pure Gir cow ghee.
